UNESCO, Immaterial relics of Slovakia – FUJARA


FUJARA – a wooden wind instrument which is the most typical instrument of Slovakia was registered into the UNESCO list in 2005. Fujara was used by the shepherds as well as during many festal and mourning events. It was also used as a signal tool for communication. It is an air blow-pipe that can reach the length of 1,8 m. Fujaras tend to be nicely decorated and each one is a unique piece of art. They are decorated by ornamental and figural patterns. They are made of elder wood and cannot be found elsewhere in the world. Fujaras combine musicalness, handicraft and high esthetic feeling.
